Logan settled back onto the bench. People rushed past him with their packages, oblivious to the world outside the busy mall. Jubilee bounced out of the trendy record store carrying a bag.
"Wolvie! Ohmigosh, they had the new Lila Cheney CD! I had to get it." She flopped down on the bench next to him.
"That's good darlin'. Are ya almost done?" He looked at the bubbly 13-year-old mall rat.
She nodded. "Yup. I just wanna go ta Contempo Casuals first."
He stood up and turned to pull her to her feet. "Let's go mun-" He was cut off with a grunt and fell to the floor.
Jubilee screamed when she saw the crossbow bolt sticking out of his back. People around her echoed her screams as they pushed and shoved trying to get away from her and Logan. "Ohmigod, Wolvie. Are you okay? Talk t' me."
"P-"
"What is it? You're not going to die, are you?"
"P, pull-"
"Pull? Pull what?"
"Jubilee, shut up fer a minute." He said as quickly as he could.
"Yeah, Wolvie?"
"Pull it out." He told her. Gingerly, she grabbed the bolt.
"This is gonna hurt." She said softly.
"I know. Just do it." He gritted his teeth.
She took a deep breath and pulled with all her might. The bolt slid out with a slurping noise. "Eww." She remarked, dropping the bloody spike.
"Come on kid. Help me out of here." Logan winced as he unsteadily got to his feet.
Jubilee jumped up and slung one of his arms over her shoulder. "Ugh. I forgot how heavy you are." She helped him out of the mall and to his jeep. Luckily, they were near an exit and the car. "Are you gonna be able to drive?"
He sat with his head back for a few minutes. "I think so. Get in the jeep."
They made it home without any further incidents. Scott looked up when they pulled into the garage.
"Wolverine? Are you alright?" He asked concerned, looking at the blood staining the back of the jeep seat.
"Somebody shot me in the mall." He told him. "With a crossbow."
"Get down to the med lab and have Hank check that out. You can tell us about it later." Scott ordered.
"I'll be fine." Logan protested but Jubilee pulled on his arm.
"He's going." She told Scott and led the older man into the house.
